KemFine has a long tradition in the fine chemical industry. The company originates from Finland when Kemira established in 1984 its fine chemicals business and the first multipurpose plant was started.

In 2004, 3i with the management team performed a buy-out of the fine chemicals activities and renamed the company KemFine Ltd. In the new ownership, aggressive growth was sought which culminated in the acquisition of Avecia Fine Chemicals in 2005. The addition of the Grangemouth site in Scotland which also has years of experience in the custom manufacturing industry, was a perfect complimentary fit broadening the asset and technology base of KemFine.
